  • Raquel Garcia Branding and Media

Raquel Garcia is an absolute vocal powerhouse. Not even 18 yet, she was discovered by music industry titan, Chuck Morris, former President of AEG Rocky Mountains, (now the Chairman Emiritus of the organization). Through his financial backing, network, and management, Raquel is now positioned as one of the world's next top bilinguial Latin pop artists. With representation by Bruno DelGranado, the President of the Latin Division at CAA, she's recently been backed with writing support by Ed Sheeran and production support by Peter Asher.

Boulder Media House was contracted for a full media and branding package. We produced a full interview piece with Raquel in both English and Spanish, with social media cutdowns and a shortened version. We also executed press photos, a digital EPK, two live demo music videos, and social media consulting. More work samples from this project can be provided by request -- Creative Commission upload limits make it difficult to show the full scope of deliverables.

  • Great Escape

Carlisle based seven piece rock group Hardwicke Circus are something of a time machine in musical terms. They have been likened to the Rolling Stones and there are indeed similarities given both the instrumental and stylistic range that groups like the Stones would achieve, but never have I heard a group with as much going on as this band.

With this project the aim was not to record songs or conduct proper interviews but just to capture the essence of the group. So I adopted a semi fly-on-the-wall approach as the group set up to perform as part of the Great Escape Festival at Brighton’s Grand Central. Getting the guys talking was pretty good fun. Having previously conducted over a hundred interviews on my former health and fitness channel this was a bit of a cake walk. I knew I wanted to quiz them for their take on modern music and the spirit of rock so I bounced them off each other for their answers whilst also examining their retro fashion choices.

Filming gigs is also something I have a fair amount of experience in with also around one hundred live music performance videos under the belt. This however was a bit of an awkward gig as the room was just about big enough to house the band, let alone a crowd. On top of that the organisers had about four cameras filming (footage that has never surfaced) and were a little touchy about anyone getting in the way. So I chose to capture as much of the set up and behind the scenes as I could get then to slip around the group between songs to focus on the different parts of the band.

In the edit I knew I wanted everything to have a timeless retro feel so I made the rare choice of putting the interview segments in a sepia monochrome whilst the performances I treated with a custom blend of tinted shadows, gaussian blur and prism effects to give the look of old seventies/eighties style television footage on a CRT television.

  • Third Son - Work Really Fucking Hard (Album Documentary)

Debut albums are sacred concepts for any artist. The most personal statement possible about you and your work in musical form; something that takes time to perfect. There will only ever be one debut album, so it's got to be done right. Nothing left to chance and certainly not rushed. This makes Third Son's debut album all the more curious. The London producer approached his most significant work to date as a challenge: could he make and released it in 20 days during Coronavirus lockdown?

This documentary tells the story of that process, combining videos posted online during recording and a subsequent interview at his home studio where the album was recorded in May.

Directed, Produced and Edited the project end to end.

  • NXTGEN School Tour Diaries

(Two more videos on the way.)

    The original brief:

Entertainment One are in need of a Manchester-based filmmaker (video + photo).

We are looking for someone to create a tour diary around the tour. Must be clever with angles as most schools have a no-face policy.

Band are very easy going. Wanting content of them performing, meeting fans, in the van on the way there, etc.

    ***

The tour was set to 'plant the seeds' for local fandom amongst local schools where students can 'discover' the band and create a homegrown movement from there outwards.

For these videos, we went with a 'run 'n gun' style with a DSLR - as the project also required photos, it meant taking pictures between video shoots - and it meant mobility, ease of function and access.

With the target audience set to be teenagers, the approach went with a more raw handheld style as opposed to a locked-off and polished look - allowing the energy of the movement to keep the visuals interesting throughout the video.

As well as trying to capture the fun and energy of the day, the job required interaction with the group themselves to tease out great moments from them, whether that be 'vox pops' or simply indulging in a few funny shennanigans for the camera.

All the while being respectful to the premises, schools, students and staff whilst doing the job to the band and label's satisfaction.

After recording everything on my trusty iPhone 6 and quick edit in FCP X the video was ready for publishing on Facebook for other fans to enjoy. This experience tested my skills of thinking on my feet both as a journalist and camera operatro as well as taught me more about publishing videos as Facebook Premieres.

  • Mumford & Sons - Entwined: Charlie

"Earlier this year, we invited 4 filmmakers to capture the journey of 4 fans travelling to our Manchester Arena Delta Tour show on 6th June 2019 Adam Young of Paper Sky films captured musician Charlie Reader on his journey.

Directed and Edited by Adam Young

    Produced by Paper Sky Films"

For this video, we got lucky with a lovely young lad called 'Charlie', who became a full-time musician after being inspired by Mumford & Sons - he also met his girlfriend at a gig he played where he covered 'Little Lion Man.'

The film covers his story where he first heard the band, his first live experience with them and that 'chills' feeling he got that inspired him to go to music school and become a guitarist and singer.

Mumford's management team gave Charlie backstage access where he got to meet Ted, the bassist, and got a tour of the stage during soundcheck where Charlie got a little teary-eyed from watching the band perform exclusively to him.
