On this first album package for Japanese musician Miyakawa Iren, we placed importance on being visually appealing to a broader audience. After thoroughly listening to the album many times, we decided upon the fantasy illusionary imagery to interpret Iren’s musical perspective and present it to the world, allowing the listeners to experience a musical fantasy odyssey.

Migimimi Sleep Tight / The Massive Market

Once again, we are delighted to be able to create an album packaging design for Japanese electro J-POP band “Migimimi Sleep Tight” under the banner of Space Shower Music. From their musical development, we can perceive the experimental nature of “The Massive Market”. Beyond using the mixture of English and Japanese lyrics, the music’s style produces a wave of Japanese American Funk and Future Bass, with Chinese lyrics adding further flavour, highlighting the feelings of metropolitan love story. In order to be able to display their amalgamation of ideas, we devised an eye catching colour palette and illustration to picture an urban trance of modern tunes.

Slobheads Andy's Got A Gun

Really fun one for Slobheads' new single 'Andy's Got A Gun,' featuring their out of control band manager Andy Arseface wreaking havoc on the town.

Royal Blood Poster

For this illustration of Royal Blood, the talented English rock duo formed by Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher, there are references to Brighton, where the band is from.

The Royal Bengal tiger is coming into the city, stepping over  Brighton Royal Pavilion in a psychedelic haze.

You can read the band's name in the deconstructed tiger's stripes, which also stands as a reference to the structure still standing of the pier which burnt down in 2003.

Ozric Tentacles - career retrospective books

The latest in the Ozric Tentacles book sets I have designed is 'Trees of Eternity (1994 - 2000)' a 7 remastered Disc, 72-page Hardback Book containing 6 studio albums and the never-before-released Live at Fillmore, 1998. At the heart of this deluxe set is an in-depth book containing original liner notes by Dominic Blake, words from Ed Wynne, previously unseen photographs, rare content collected from band members old and new, personal artefacts from close associates of the band.

'Trees of Eternity' follows on from 'Travelling the Great Circle', the previous book which covered the first four full albums, from Pungent Effulgent and Jurassic Shift, a demos and rarities disc, the live Underslunky release, as well as the 1991 filmed concert from the Fridge in Brixton on DVD and a bonus disc of remixes.

The artist has a love of old-school dancehall posters and wanted this freehand aesthetic to flow through his artwork.

Working with another designer, StudioPensom launched FACT magazine back in 2004. It was seven inches in size, and the launch issue came inside a 45RPM slipcase. Over the years we commissioned many great artists, designers and illustrators for the magazine. Copies were available from record shops, and usually sold out on the day of release.

Artwork for Goose Island Brewery

I was commissioned by Goose Island Brewery to produce a number of illustrations and screen prints for promotional events and new craft beers. 
Artwork was used in a variety of settings from social media through to a bill board in Shoreditch’s Red Market and screen printed gig posters that were sold at events.

The Nerve CD Cover

I was commissioned to help bring The Nerve's album cover to life based on their initial ideas. We wanted a fun, colorful visual that included the car wiith a woman tippnig her martini glass out the window while flying down a desert road. The rotoscope illustration style was also discussed in lieu of a more photo-realistic approach.

We shot the car with the model in a studio setting, afterwhich I used it for the illustrative composite. This included design of the logo and the sign with the marquee. We added a few tongue-in-cheek references for the fanbase and locals.

The final cover has been well received and was also the basis for a poster. The Nerve continue to work with me on various projects.

Emergence' Eco Wallet

After the first pressing of 'Emergence' sold out, Basilysk needed a more eco-friendly package for a physical copy that would cost less to produce and thus be able to be sold at a more affordable price specifically for international fans. This new compact edition boasts a revisited album cover and an all-new inner layout with full creative direction and execution done by me.

Emergence' Jewel Case Edition

My greatest collection of work can be found within the first pressing of Basilysk's 'Emergence' album. I explored so many new mediums while working on this project which I feel made me twice the artist I was before I started it. From oil to collage to homemade tempura paint to clay, I was able to give each song on this album a unique, visual representation that reflects the "mixed media" nature of the band's music. All work created 2017-2018.

This comission from the band, Misanthropic Rituals, was originally only meant to be a 3-colour shirt design, but they liked the final product so much that they decided they will use it for their upcoming album. I dove in head first to this pen and ink project and did not stop until my creative boundaries were pushed to the limit.

Sad State of the Art' T-Shirts & Longsleeves

Going with a dadaist approach adopted in the 1980's by punk rock and heavy metal, I spent many hours cutting and pasting this shirt design together which was then followed by several more hours of digitally tweaking the levels of the scanned files until they were ready to be "posterized" into a black and white print.

High detail hand illustrated artwork for the Album Cover and Sleeve Poster of this limited edition OMAM vinyl. The artwork shows a series of goemetric mountain shapes, against a stark black sky. "I was Inspired by the bleak and yet beautiful landscapes of Iceland, which is where OMAM hail from. The cover art gives a nod to their homeland, while also being fairly ambiguous."

Nicole Millar - Excuse Me

Nicole Millar is a Canadian-Australian electronic, indie pop singer-songwriter. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2014 she won a trophy for Best Dance Release alongside Australian duo Peking Duck for their co-written single ‘High’.

We created the album artwork and packaging for Nicole’s 2018 debut album ‘Excuse Me’, as well as social media assets for Facebook and Instagram, tour poster art and print media assets. We dove into the lyrics of the album and created artwork that reflected Nicole’s unique sound and captured some of the more playful and fun themes of the album.

Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan is a South African-born Australian musician, actor and Youtuber with over 7 Million subscribers. Troye has been collaborating with MIK for a number of years, his music video clip for Youth (directed by MIK’s Adam Callen) winning an ARIA award for best video in 2015. As Troye prepared to launch his second studio album Bloom in 2018, he enlisted MIK to develop a suite of album artwork that would position him as a serious singer songwriter.

How do we creatively convey Troye’s maturation as an artist in Bloom? And in a volatile global streaming market, how do we ensure this artwork remains cohesive and relevant across multiple single releases?

MIK worked closely with Troye to develop artwork that reflected the maturity of Troye’s new sound, making this the central ethos of all materials. The photography was undertaken by well-respected French fashion photographer and fashion designer, Hedi Slimane.

We created a cohesive campaign that leveraged and linked all album collateral, from the limited edition vinyl to accompanying booklet, with his website, merchandise, digital advertising and social media assets.

Rōnin Arkestra

Ronin Arkestra is a collective of exceptional Japanese jazz musicians curated and led by LA-based Mark De Clive-Lowe. I was tasked with the creative direction of this wonderful project in the form of 2 x 12" vinyl sleeve designs and a host of digital assets for use across streaming platforms and social media profiles.

Jon Hopkins Polarity Tour Screen Prints and Posters

I was commissioned to design a poster for Jon Hopkins' Polarity Tour. This was a great project to work on and evelved into 2 poters and two t shirt designs. My starting point was some of the images management sent me of recent releases as well as some oif the lyrical reference in somew of the tracks. The t shirts were all printed by Red Star, I hand printed each of the poster which sold really well.

The Lumineers - Cleopatra World Tour Screen Prints

Having worked with Producer / Singer Songwriter Simone Felice for a number of years - who produced the last two Lumineers albums, I was intorduced to the band and commissioned to produce 3 screen printed posters for their Cleopatra World Tour in 2016. I screen printed all of the European posters - around 1500 posters.

A true lockdown collaboration - Andrew and I initially connected to shoot a series of fresh press shots, which have been postponed until the world has opened back up to us. For now, we've collaborated on the artwork for his latest release 'Save the Light'. Andrew provided some excellent photographs and I set about combining them with a minimal design that aimed to give breathing room to the photography itself, which was very personal to Andrew, and to represent the duality of the album's content - a sometimes darker atmosphere with signs of light and faithful optimism, evident in Andrew’s attitude to making the most of our connecting during the lockdown.

Major thanks to Andrew for being brilliant to work with and to Creative Commission for connecting us.

Open minded: A visualisation

Experiencing new sounds/ ideas and being entirely absorbed by them is my favourite feeling when it comes to listening to new music. One that always inspires new ideas. I wanted to put this energy into an artwork that encapsulates and represents this personal experience.

Madame X' Hard Cover VIP Book

Creative concept and layout for a premium hard cover book as part of Madonna's latest tour VIP package.

The book is packaged in a spray painted custom envelope sealed with a wax stamp. The metallic red hard cover with red gilded edges slides out of black soft-touch hard slip-case with a die-cut X window. It comprises 140 uniquely designed pages on uncoated stock and a mix of specialty paper stocks throughout. An illustrated red mini dance-steps book is bound within the larger book. A custom linen playing card with gold foil can be removed from one of the pages. The lined back cover has an envelope of instant photographs affixed.

Work completed included pitching the original concept, all layout and design work, copywriting and some photography.

Madame X' Tour Program Book

Creative concept and layout design for Madonna's latest tour book, inspired by the various personas of Madame X and her roots in Lisbon.

With a red foil cover with gloss varnish logo, the 60 page book features glossy and textural varnishes, metallic silver pages, and a semi-translucent vellum page. It also includes a spread of perforated, pop-out, paper dolls, as well as a semi-translucent red vellum envelope containing four typographic postcards.

Kurt Cobain Hard Cover Book

Layout design for a hard cover book featuring the art of Kurt Cobain alongside the merchandise designs featuring his art.

The 152 page book, sold at retail, features a soft-touch hard cover, housed in a soft-touch hard slip case imprinted with a silver foil logo. Sections within the book are divided with translucent vellum pages. The edges of the book are gilded in black.

Work completed includes the creative concept, copy writing, and layout design of the book as well as creative direction and design of the apparel featured in the book, incorporating Kurt Cobain's original art.

Dog & Gun

I designed and hand-screen printed packaging and apparel copies for Dog & Gun's self-titled album. The image is taken from the story of the crow and the pitcher, substituting water for a mason jar filled with white lightning. Framing the crow are the skeletal pelvis and spine of a black bear and rhododendron bush. The run was limited to 100 copies, all handmade jackets, inserts, and CD imprints. Additionally, tee-shirts were screenprinted from this design.

AMF It Up! Benefit Concert Poster

I designed this poster to promote a benefit concert for AMF (Austin Music Foundation). The event featured local artists and all of the proceeds went to AMF which is focused on advancing the Austin muisc industry through programming, development, and mentorship. I was in charge of designing promotional assets and setting the aesthetic. I chose a colorful space-western theme to grab viewers' attention and help sell as many tickets as possible. Attached is the print version of the poster.
