A 360 VR site specific installation comprised of three bespoke audio reactive videos made for the Musicity 360VR Festival at the Barbican Centre.
We took 3 spaces and 3 audio artists we created a virtual reactive experience that was viewed on site at the locations in the Barbican Centre in London.

The BlackDog - My Brutal Life

Promo of a 40 minute short film comisioned by The BlackDog and Sensoria Festival. The film played for two weeks inside the Moore Street Power Station in Sheffiled.

Mitch Rowland 'Come June' Creative

'Come June' is the debut solo album by GRAMMY Award winner Mitch Rowland. In 2023, Blackstar's creative team were commissioned by Giant Music to create a suite of assets around the release of the album, including ad creative, social posts, banners, and more. Blackstar were also responsible for filming Mitch in various locations around London, capturing candid discussions about the making of the album, and intimate performances of tracks recorded live at Octagon Studios in Brixton.

One of my favourite films of all time (my dissertation was mainly about it), it was a dream to be able to do an official illustration set for them for this product. The two contrasting designs are based on the film’s themes of isolation, identity and Mary’s room thought experiment.

Tour documentary for Haelos: ARK - the film

A tour documentary for UK trip-hop band Haelos. Shot across eleven US states and Canada, the 15 minute long film was developed from a series of interviews shot with fans across the country, exploring the themes and concept of the band's second album, Any Random Kindness.

During the production process, I creative directed and produced a social media campaign connecting the band with fans across the world, allowing them to leave messages, voice notes and other content for the band, which was included in the film. I also shot, directed a produced a package of shorter film assets to promote the album.

Ben Marc - BREATHE

BREATHE Suite B - Ben Marc

A woman goes on a journey of escape and self-discovery, in Sebastian Whyte's powerful visual for Ben Marc. 

The video for Breathe follows the main character - played by Sherelle Johnson - as she travels from the city to the countryside and back. Filmed in London and South East England, this was initially inspired by the road movie genre and it works both as an engaging short film and a music video, anchored by strong performances from its cast.

"Originally, the plan was to have a couple on the run as the main focus," says Sebastian Whyte. "However various constraints and actors dropping out meant that we had to tweak the narrative. Then I became fascinated with the idea of a single female protagonist, who is fragile and vulnerable, yet strong, single-minded and independent.

"In a strange way, her semi-meditative journey of discovery mirrors the evolution of the film's narrative. And throughout the driving force is Ben's beautifully epic soundtrack."

Katy Hurt - Revved Up

Katy wanted to make an heist video for her song that in involved driving down to the desert in Spain...so that is exactly what we did.

We had a basic storyboard but as we had zero chance to scout any of the locations beforehand, a lot of the video was shot on the fly using locations we found and just trying different things to see what worked. The advantage was I was editing on the go, so was able to put parts of the video together and see what was missing and what was need to make it work.

The Spell & The Promise

Inspired by a locked-down city of London, 'The Spell & The Promise' is a collaborative project between a music composer, a film director and a London Symphony Orchestra musician.

Featuring Gareth Davies (principal flute, LSO) performing an original composition by Jasmin Kent Rodgman, the film unravels as a contemporary fairytale with the melodies of the flute casting a spell over the city. We follow two dancers performing at London Wall Place, where ancient and modern architecture collide.

Co-commissioned by Culturemile London and Arts Brookfield with the London Symphony Orchestra.

The music video Fire unfolds a mysterious journey as a treasure seeking femme fatale spy uncovers sacred hidden knowledge. Her quest transforms into a spiritual alchemy, discovering a glowing empowerment, as ancient as the landscape, and as eternal as the sun.

I was invited to create a new visual identity and brand for singer/songwriter Bethia Beadman.The goal is to establish a mythic persona and create a meaningful iconography to match Bethia Beadman’s luminosity, her music and talent. It is important to create a timeless look, something that is not easily identifiable into a particular decade, while at the same time capturing a fashion forward vibe and feel. Musicians are the modern day shamans. Music is part of a powerful movement to change and rebuild our society. The goal is to match a strong visual tonal quality to Bethia Beadman’s unique voice and music – to forge new pathways, to create something lasting, something powerful, and to envision a fabulous future, not merely emulate a nostalgic past.

Salem (short movie)

Salem focuses on ‘Tallulah’, a young woman caught up in sexual slavery. Controlled by her pimp and the abuses of her customers, she chooses not to play victim, but empowers herself in the midst of oppression. It’s a piece that attacks the mindset of sexual objectification, exposing the brokenness at its core and revealing instead the beauty we discover as we choose to see ourselves for who we truly are.

King Crimson have shared a trailer for the upcoming documentary about the band titled Cosmic FuKc.

The project is being helmed by Toby Amies, with a statement on the film reading: “In 2018, Robert Fripp commissioned a documentary to explore the meaning of King Crimson 50 years after the band was formed. What follows is an exclusive look at the making of that film.”

Skinny Lister_'My Life, My Architecture'

Skinny Lister’s videos are mostly location based but for the first release from their 4th album ‘The Story Is…’ they asked us to create a different look and feel for them. ‘My Life, My Architecture’ leans towards a more ‘pop’ sound for the band so we filmed a brilliant performance by lead singer Lorna against green screen and created a 3D environment befitting of the energy she radiates.
