Creative Corner with Michaella Bloom

September 2021

MALFYB is a multi-talented entrepreneur, artist, designer, and dot connector. She is the founder of 1UP Talent Network, an expansive and diverse network of content creators, comedians, artists, producers, and activists. She is also a street artist and designer with a focus on mental health awareness.

Our recent chat with Michaella discusses her favourite campaigns and talks about the overlaps between visual creativity and music.

I’m currently working on a new collection, launching my own creator coin, holiday campaigns with brands, and continuing to expand in all areas of my business.

Creatively at the moment, I’m loving Raf Simons.

He is a creative genius and everything he touches becomes infinitely more unique and elevated. He is such an iconic culture shaper that has never stopped pushing boundaries. He values the art of collaboration and his work is always evolving and forward thinking. Plus, he never had any formal training as a designer which I like because I haven’t either.

My all-time favourite music video is Kanye West - Runaway Short Film. It will never get old. Every time I watch it I am more enthralled.

I’ve always loved the album art for Oops!… I Did It Again. It's a historical artifact at this point.

The most recent campaign I’ve enjoyed working on has been New Balance 574 Campaign.

Two multi-talented artists I work with, Mighty Bay and Number9OK created an original song for the iconic 574 sneaker. In collaboration with Marcus Ecby and Elliot Forde, we created viral content surrounding the song and it’s been awesome to watch multi-talented entertainers bring the iconic sneaker to life through dance, music, and boundary-exploring branded content.

The most recent brand collab that caught my eye was Prada X Adidas Forum Low collaboration.

I first saw them through A$AP Rocky who customized his pair and gave them a whole new energy. I love the intersection of music, fashion, art, and culture so this collaboration is super interesting to me. I like the idea of two very different brands bringing their identities and values together to create this hybrid artistic output.

For me the most creative and original music video of the past year is biased but the 574 music video we did in collaboration with New Balance - directed by Tisa Korean.

Such an authentic collaboration that stayed true to the artists’ brands while simultaneously integrating and highlighting New Balance in such an organic way.

I wish I’d designed the artist logo for Red Hot Chili Peppers. So timeless.

The one artist you should follow on Instagram is ktlynraps.

She is a friend of mine that I  have collaborated on original branded music with. She is insanely talented - worth a follow!!

The most iconic music photograph is Biggie’s Ready To Die album art.

I literally just learned it’s not him on the cover it’s actually a random kid that got booked through a modeling agency.
