Devin Sarno is currently VP of Creative Services for Warner Records in Los Angeles where he has commissioned music videos for artists such as: Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Deftones, Gary Clark Jr. and many others.

Previous to Warner, Sarno was a commissioner at Virgin Records America and The WORK Group/Sony Music. In his free time, Sarno is also a Bassist / Composer who has released over 25 recorded works.

Our recent chat with Devin discusses his favourite campaigns and talks about the overlaps between visual creativity and music.

I’m currently working on videos for Mastodon, Sub Urban and Patrick Droney.

I'M LOVING

Creatively at the moment, I’m loving the sound work of Claire Rousay. She can weave a spellbinding mood from a patchwork of field recordings. Her Twitter feed is also highly entertaining.

FAVOURITE VIDEO

There’s a good chance this answer changes every time someone asks me, but right now my all-time favourite music video is Tom Waits Downtown Train. Directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino.

BEST ARTWORK

I’ve always loved the album art for Sonic Youth EVOL.

RECENT CAMPAIGN

The most recent campaign I’ve enjoyed working on has been Madeline The Person, who is a new signing for us at Warner.

She’s a fount of amazing ideas and energy. It’s been an honor helping to bring her visions to life and see the excitement in her eyes when we finish a new video.

BRAND COLLAB

The most recent brand collab that caught my eye was Brain Dead x Kerbi Urbanowski.

A series of 100 hand cut, stained glass clocks from Artist Kerbi Urbanowski for Brain Dead.

CREATIVE VIDEO

For me the most creative and original music video of the past year is The Linda Lindas Racist, Sexist Boy (Live at LA Public Library). The future is bright indeed.

LOGO LOVE

I wish I’d designed the artist logo for The Grateful Dead.

Fan of the band or not, this logo is bad ass and ubiquitous which i guess Is all one could ask for out of a logo.

GO FOLLOW

The one artist you should follow on Instagram is Tim Biskup.

I am lucky to call Tim a friend. His artwork and ethos in general is always an inspiration to me.

ICONIC

The most iconic music photograph is impossible (for me) to quantify…but i really dig this image of John Coltrane by Francis Wolff.
