Diyala Muir is a freelance animation director and artist. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2016 Diyala has been awarded funding to make films from the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, Random Acts at Channel 4, and the British Film Institute, as well as working commercially for clients such as Declan McKenna and the Brixton House theatre.
Diyala’s darkly comic and naive style has been described as “raw, punk and gutsy” by the jury at the British Animation Awards 2018, where she won Best Student film for ‘The Day After the Party.’ She often uses this style as a tool to express the chaotic inner world of her protagonists, as well as to approach complex themes such as loneliness, anxiety and sexuality. Her films have screened at festivals around the world including Encounters, Ottawa International Animation Festival and Tricky Women.
