Woman by Eleanor Grace Hann
I created this short dance film for Women's History Month in response to what I feel being a woman in 2023 means.
To me being a woman is a beautiful yet exhausting experience. In 2023 we as women continue to be oppressed, yet we still radiate love, peace and hope in such harsh conditions. This film is my voice as a woman represented through that.
In this film we explored movement that felt freeing enough, yet had moments of attack in order to protect ourselves. We explored fashion that once confided us, yet now is our freedom of expression such as corsets and dresses. Our make up represented the scars as women we hold from our everyday existence. Some scenes played with the idea of society putting women against one another, yet once we unlearn this internalised misogyny we are more powerful together. The cinematography and colours explored this beautiful balance of soft and coldness.
I’m extremely grateful to all the beautiful women and people who collaborated on this with me. Without you all, this wouldn’t of been possible. I’ve been directing film for two years now, and I feel like I’m finally stepping into my power and voice. So thank you, and I can’t wait for this journey to continue to unfold.
