Hunting for Remoteness Film Trailer

Orkney: The Symphony of the Magnetic North is an album inspired by The Orkney Islands, where bandmember Erland Cooper (of Erland and the Carnival) grew up, with each song title taking its name from a place or person of folklore from the islands.

With Hannah Peel and Simon Tong, the 3 of them spent a week on the islands, soaking all their atmosphere up, meeting people and performing with the local choir at the cathedral.

As filmmakers we were taksed with documenting the whole journey, where they were going, what were the inspirations for these songs, and why are the Orkneys so steeped in intrigue.

The final piece is a 30 minute short film that takes in tales from the somewhat reclusive islanders, blending it with the words of inspiration from the musicians, and makes an perfectly atmospheric accompaniment to the beautiful piece of music created.
