Adobe Creativity Tour - Lady Gaga Chromatica Contest

My submission for Adobe Creativity Tour's Lady Gaga contest to redesign the cover for her 6th studio album Chromatica. For the overall look & feel, I used elements of synthwave and a retro grainy finish to reference the old-school dance style of the album. Conceptually, I wanted to portray the contrast between the darker lyrical themes and uptempo sound on the album. The use of light and dark on the background and contrasting colours on the chrome symbol gave me a basis which I further pushed through adding more visual elements. Neon ivy is intertwined round the lighter side, the ivy being symbolic for victory and driving out evil. The opposite side is bound in barbed wire, representing restraint and inability to escape. This is brought together with the statement at the bottom - “no one thing is greater than another” - showing our experiences are made up of a harmony between good and bad.
