FLYNT approached us late in 2022 to shoot a quick turnaround video for their new single "Sweet Nothing".

The song is a high-intensity, slow groove that really hits hard. And it was clear from the onset that the cut and the shoot had to be rhythmically led. With the brief really pushing the idea of old tape and film nods.

It also had to be turned around in a single location, with performance-style footage only, within 48 hours.

The location the band chose was the remote village hall in which they'd practised during their early days, and we worked with the band to create a simple setup that could appear much larger than what it appeared to be.

We couldn't help but think that the location and the nature of the band's performance style lent itself perfectly to an 'in-the-round' setup. Allowing us to rig one large soft key light directly above the band and a few fresnels on the outer edge to catch flares into the lens. Which gave great opportunities for creative cuts in post.

That, matched with the programmed rear lights gave us a massive amount to play with when it came to creating energy and a jumpy edit.

We also chose the colours really carefully. Maintaining a 70s palette throughout the video, with a slightly filmic look, warm browns and cool whites.

This was a really fun project to work on. And a visual style that we love to create by default.
