Chungking_'Beautiful World'

Since the recording of their first album ‘We Travel Fast’, which they recorded in our shared studio 12 years ago, through ‘The Hungry Years’, for which we did all the artwork, to their third album ‘Stay Up Forever’ where we did a video for the lead single and during their 7 year hiatus we have always maintained a close relationship with the band Chungking. This week see’s the release of their 4th album ‘Defender’, the first on their own label Black Volta, and we did a little post work on the albums cover and created the video for the album’s lead single ‘Beautiful World’, released 29th June 2015.For the video we went back to a collection of 25 NASA VHS tapes we bought about 15 years ago, when we were doing club visuals, and decided to utilize the footage and make a video which touched upon the dreamy/ other worldly elements of the album, this, by chance, timed well with a an announcement that all NASA footage is now rights free (as long as you credit them as source). The video was composed with layers of the captured footage, creating a collage effect, there is never just a single layer presented. We kept in all the artefacts that are associated with VHS capture to compliment the songs timeless quality.
