KHZ SOUND — four sleeves, two names, one rule
Self-initiated. KHZ SOUND is our own label, so this was art direction with nobody to blame.
The catalogue was split before a single sleeve was drawn: beat-led releases go out as KHZIIII, ambient and piano as KHZIIII NOX. The two registers were then allowed to look nothing alike — one material, one human. What holds four unlike covers on the same shelf is not a palette or a filter. It is one typographic rule: one family, one weight, one position, one size relationship, on every release without exception.
Every route was judged at sixty pixels before it was judged at full width. Almost nobody meets a record at poster size; they meet it in a list, on a phone, beside twenty others. The blacks were kept deep but still holding detail, so a streaming thumbnail does not reduce the cover to a rectangle.
