Peter Gregson - Patina
This video was commissioned by repeat client Key Music Management for Peter Gregson, a classical cellist who is on their management roster and signed to Deutsche Grammophon / Universal Music.
They wanted a performance video that broke away from the norms of traditional classical music. After speaking with Peter, I suggested that we bring out some of the concept present during the writing of 'Patina' into our visual.
More specifically, the heartwrenching notion that a person dies twice: once when they draw their final breath, and the other when someone mentions their name for the very last time and their presence on earth finally comes to an end.
Filming in a 1920s cinema in South Manchester, there were two distinct sections to our performance video. The first in the dimly lit cinema, curtains drawn over the big screen and empty seats. The second with the curtains open, projecting an abstract found footage project as an accompnying lighting show swept the cinema.
This music video represents the second death - when there are no more spectators to your story, as it plays out on the big screen one final time.
