The Bigger Picture: JONES - filmed at Kew Gardens, London
Since arriving on the music scene in 2015, Cherie Jones – better known by the all-caps mononym JONES – has slowly revealed herself to be a bit of a big deal.
She's worked with XL Recordings' regular producer Rodaidh McDonald, the man who was behind the control desk for Savages, Daughter and The xx amongst others; made a career-setting appearance on one of UK TV's only live music shows, Later… With Jools Holland; and has been hailed by no less than Sam Smith as "f***ing beautiful".
The London-based singer, who was raised on a diet of Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross and is drawn to compare herself to Lykke Li and Yukimi Nagano, is following up her debut album, New Skin, with a bunch of new material later this year.
Since New Skin, she's been freshening up her modern, electronics-grazed soul into a sound to be reckoned with. Fittingly then, for an artist focused on the bigger picture, her live performance of new track Better Off is all about the slow-burn reveal. If it's any indication of the new music to come, we're in for a real treat.
Watch JONES perform Better Off, filmed in the stunningly revamped environs of Kew Gardens' Temperate House in London.
