Why, My Love? - Single Cover

When coming up with a concept for this cover, I knew I wanted to evoke the sound of the song visually. To me, I felt the song's colour was blue. It's got lots of reverb and echo on it, so is very ethereal. I used lots of negative space around the sides of the artwork to create that feeling of an "expanse" that I heard in the song. 

It was the band's first co-written song, so I attempted several different ways of combining their faces to represent this collaboration. I set up a photoshoot in which the band were photographed individually under different harsh lighting conditions. I used one face as a base, then layered the other ones on top . To achieve the patterns on the overlaid faces, I hand painted ink on paper to use as a mask, then used different overlay effects to combine them so elements of each face could be seen.
