Godzelato series 1 & 2

Growing up as Godzilla fans, this project reflects not only our childhood memories but also looking at the deeper meanings behind this pop culture icon through a more light-hearted and humor illustration style.

Godzilla was a creature empowered by nuclear radiation, and it’s often conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons. In other words, Godzilla is basically created by human ( because we invented nuclear weapons) and then destroyed by human at the end. The question here is why doing it in the first place? If this question is asked by a kid, the answer most likely will be that the adult world is complicated. But is that the truth?

Therefore, for this project, we decided to see the world through a baby Godzilla’s eyes, whose favorite food is gelato. In this series, no matter what problem it’s facing, the baby Godzilla solves it with gelato. It might sounds silly, but if we all look at our problems with love, maybe the adult world won’t be so complicated? If we all hold on to the pureness and simpleness like the baby Godzilla, maybe the world would be a better place? Maybe, just maybe. Anyway, let’s go enjoy some gelato!!
