Music video for Tokyo Taboo by mistergabs (Whiskey)
Whiskey is my second video for rock band Tokyo Taboo. Lead singer Dolly Daggerz asked me to direct and produce a video for the single which focused on her obsession with alcohol (specifically Whiskey) and, despite the song's strong subject matter, the track was surprisingly upbeat. This led me to come up with an idea focused around the lyrics, where drink can consume one's daily life and getting drunk becomes the party she needs to live over again. It allowed us to have a lot of fun making a great party environment; the weird and wonderful guests are either there for the party and gone when you're past out (toxic friendships) or could be seen as the party in your head. Either way, the experience is cyclic.
For the project, I worked with one of my regular DOPs, Liam Healey. We worked on a colour scheme of gold (for whiskey) and blue, bubblegum colours for the band and guests and anamorphic lenses for the slightly warped drunken feel throughout. Overall, I couldn't be prouder of this video and the amazing team who helped put it together.
