Subway to the Stars

Spread Eagle, a band who were celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2019, decided to record and release a brand new album. Titled "Subway to the Stars", the band were clear in their brief. We want it based around the NY Subway and would not like the conventional 12 page booklet but a 12 page, fold-out. This was perfect for the design.

The cover was created showing the side of a Subway train carriage with the door open and a glimpse of the inside. The inside of the carriage however, shows the seating arranged and gives the appearance that the carriage is is wide as it is long. I have always been inspired by M.C. Escher and his works, hence the 'mind altering' perception.

The fold-out shows the carriages connected with windows the perfect foil for the band photos, album details and credits - even weaving the '1989' sign and 'Spread Eagle' logo embossed on the metal side carriages.

The inside artwork panels show the never ending subway platform with the song lyrics running left to right. The roof appears to show the 'Stars' as another nod to the "Escher" style.

Artwork was created for a 12" gatefold vinyl release and the record label have the option to release this format sometime in the future.

Associated t-shirt and social media banner artwork was also designed and created.
