Spector - Half Life

"Half Life is about the fear of missing out on your own life” revealed frontman Fred Macpherson. “The worry that you’re losing touch with people, places, culture, no longer recognising yourself in the mirror, the constant tick of the clock in the background. It’s about wondering how much time you have left.”

Yet, in true indie disco spirit, the band still wanted to make the music “upbeat and celebratory” even if the song is actually a sad one. “There’s nothing better than a group of people just losing it, all singing along to something a bit miserable,” Fred says in explanation of the track’s indie disco homage. Therefore, in ‘Half Life’ we have the formidable juxtaposition of upbeat guitar riffs, sublime synth melodies and the melancholic lyrics. Especially with regards to the synths in the track, it is lovely to see the band indulge in their love for vintage Depeche Mode.
