Jess Cope's new animation for Metallica is a pitch-dark ode to revenge.

Steeped in dark imagery of expressionist fairy tales, horror films and a little bit of Hitchcock thrown in for good measure, the seven-minute clip follows an anthropomorphised hyena who hunts female animals of all varieties for sport. The heads of his victims, and their dresses, hang on his walls like trophies, as he prepares to take his next victim: the suburban housewife-deer who lives across the valley.

However, things take a turn for the vengeful as the ghosts of his past victims help to turn the tables on his plans. It's all as slow-burning, brooding, and tense as the track - from Metallica's new album Hardwired.... To Self-Destruct – with a dark animation style reminiscent of Edward Gorey, by way of the Brothers Grimm.
