In the Blink of an Eye

2D animated music video.  Made from 6x6 black and white film negatives found at Mauerpark fleamarket during my time in Berlin.  I scanned them all, cleaned them up, cut them out, and used them in combination with hand drawn elements to create this animation.  The song is about how fast life goes by, and was special to Leo as his daughter sings in the chorus, so I knew I wanted to create something centered around family/relationships, with a nostalgic vibe.  I had been wanting to use these negatives for a while, but hadn't yet found the right project.  The fact they featured a lot of great faces and action shots - children, friends, playing guitars - suddenly seemed to fit Leo's song perfectly.  I have always loved film photography, and I started out in my very first animations as child playing around with cut-outs, so it was also a nod to my own beginnings.   This mixture of negatives and old film effects, combined with playfully surrealistic elements (the butterflies, eyes, heart shaped glasses, etc) seemed like the perfect balance of old and new.
