Monterey Jazz Festival 2015 Poster Submissions

In 2015, the Monterey Jazz Festival held an design contest on CreativeAllies.com to develop the poster for that year's event. These were my submissions.

Original statement on the artwork:

My inspiration is twofold. The first and underlying concept is of jazz music as the epitome of "sonic infinity", an art form that draws upon all of time and existence to form limitless possibility in expression. The second concept is of the symbiotic relationship between jazz musicians of the past and jazz musicians now. The jazz genre thrives when there is an ongoing feedback between the old generation and the new. It is a two-way street, just like an ideal relationship of parent and child - while the former imparts their knowledge and wisdom upon the latter, they in turn are receptive to that which makes the latter original and innovative. Constant reception, adaptation and expression - this is what creates the unifying bridge between the sounds of musicians past, present and future, and what I believe the Monterey Jazz Festival serves to demonstrate.
