The Only Lead

2d animation.  This is 1 of 10 animations I made for the one-man band from LA, Diamond Shake.  The Only Lead speaks about his struggle with depression and finding a way out.  The video was inspired by impressionist painting and pointilism.  The artist had a starting concept in mind already - being on a boat lost at sea - and we went with the dark impressionist style to highlight the feeling of living with depression, feeling like you're living in a blur.  The last few dancing scenes are entirely hand painted frame by frame.  They were originally destined for another unfinished/unreleased project, and had been in a cupboard for a while.  I  thought they fit the ending of this video well, and we readapted them with the splatter-painting style, to fit the concept of the video.
