Into the Fire

2d animated music video.  This was 1 of 10 videos I created for LA-based artist Diamond Shake, who hired me to animate his entire album.  "Into the Fire" is about addiction, and we wanted a very dark, baroque video.  This was a big departure from the other 9 we had worked on together -- which were all very psychedelic and colorful.  The video is made entirely from public domain illustrations and photos, which  I cutout and reinterpreted.  This required a huge phase of research and treatment even before any animation could begin - I scoured online collections and sorted potentially usable images or elements into folders.  A recurring theme in my works is surrealism and we see it again here interpreted in a very gothic way: bones growing from teacups, limbs sprouting from characters, floating eyes, skulls.
