A Return to the Weird - H.P. Lovecraft Article Layout & Print Design

This project was a series of minor projects that comprised taking older text articles and turning them into short, stunning visual ads for reprint that spoke to the tone of the article. After reviewing the copy of the editorial that was based on H.P. Lovecraft, I could sense the tone and recognized that the spreads needed to be weird and grungy much like the article. To help create the tone I created a mood board with many odd as well as unusual black and white images. With the help of the mood board, I was able to settle on images to use in the article. After I picked the colors and stock images, I began researching fonts that contrasted well together that also kept that unique tone that the article had. Next, I pushed the concept of the design by sketching out layouts I thought were interesting, and after a sum of sketches; I decided on a few that served the purpose I was looking for to communicate the weird, unusual tone that the H.P. Lovecraft Article had.
