Localicon points out unique Slovak modern architecture and built heritage from 1960`s and 1970`s, perceived often negatively by the public and even by local architects due to its origin in the communist era. The focus is on local icons – the controversial monumental complexes as well as on smaller inputs or yet not recognized industrial heritage. The impulse to start this project in 2008 was the lack of a coherent heritage policy in Slovakia, so typical for a post communistic society. The intention is to promote this architecture and reinforce its positive perception by broad public. Besides, a discussion on the topic of preservation and restoration of local modern heritage should be opened. Project is run by PUNKT n.g.o.
