Reflections - Personal Project

Reflections

This series was photographed on a 35mm film camera. Once developed, the film was scanned digitally and printed. The subject was photographed using a 10inx10inx10in cube with foil sides and 3 mirrors reflecting different sides.

It is hard for some to understand their place in the world because of an enormous part of Western culture that tells us that as individuals we are separate entities from one another as well as telling us that we have nothing to do with the environment that surrounds us. Western culture places higher priority in uniqueness, a uniqueness that keeps us from understanding what we share with others. I believe there is a harmony between being an individual and recognizing that you’re part of a whole. My hope for this series is to capture that harmony through realizing that we reflect our surroundings, that all reflections bounce off of one another, and also help us search and investigate ourselves as a whole with our aspects, attributes, experiences, and actions/interactions. I also hope that this series stimulate our insight and allows us to understand that our connection with the environment is deeper than existing in it and that we exist with it, sharing the same reflection.
