Hypnic Jerk Virtual Reality
Hypnic Jerk is a virtual reality installation where the viewer falls endlessly down a mineshaft in a "falling dream". It is an expression of fatalism in coal mining communities and commentary on the corporeal dimension of technology. The audio is sampled from a tuba-bath, a sound-healing practice I have developed utilizing a choir of tubas.
The application runs on PC and Android. For the VR installation, I use an Android phone set in a VR viewer attached to a coal mining helmet.
