LightHouse - THE SHOPWINDOW
The 2nd single off the 2nd LP for my boys The ShopWindow is a song close to singer songwriter Carl's heart... “I sometimes wake up and find myself in a fog, crippled by anxiety and self doubt. ‘Lighthouse’ is about how my wife is always able to steer me through that fog to safety and firmer ground. She has an ability to do this without even realising most of the time,
just by being her sparkling self.”
I toiled with this treatment for a week or so, trying to break down the lyrics and interpret the feeling behind them. So I started big and threw the kitchen sink at it. 250+ selected clips from Artgrid later, the astronaut resonated with me and a narrative formed. A small nod to The Martian and taking in familiar film trope of "isolation clouds the memory" and it was a relatively simple edit, but quite heavy on the rotoscoping and tracking. In the end I probably used less than 30 clips!
Carl's response "Looks magnificent mate. Great work! I love it. Can’t wait for people to see this."
